Getting "unstuck" :)

Hand quilting is a work of he(art) …and as such a queen sized quilt takes a while to hand quilt heavily!

So all week I have been on the 13th block… on Monday I was excited to reach this block as it signified my 50% completion of this quilt.. then sickness fell on me and my honey and we just haven’t had much to blog about since….or quilt and create!!!

Well today I am finally back!!!! on block 14 🙂  I am UNSTUCK and loving this project!  Here is 1/4 of the square … where I start the swirly process of this design…

My bestie Connie encouraged me … as did my honey as this is gonna be his when done.  And I think the encouragement is just what I needed!  I had been moving so fast before this… just hoping to get back in the groove and back to meditatively stitching swirls and feathers and chains until this quilt is finally complete!  Yippee!

We did score some free concrete planters on craigslist… and one planter had 3 plants in it… not in happy condition yet… but my honey can figure them out … he is working on that today… since I mentioned flowers how about a beautiful one for you my bloggy friends 🙂

These are blooms from our azalea that LOVES this cold weather we have been getting… not me so much though! lol  I hate to complain as many parts of the world are having strange weather.

Finally, I found an idea on how to quilt my antique quilt top that is patiently waiting it’s turn to be quilted… lol!

I love the simplicity and how they did a cool “freehand” style in the “melons” 🙂  I saw this on “24 blocks” on facebook this morning and instantly knew I wanted to try this super simple yet quilty pattern for my own quilt in this same pattern!  Yippee again 🙂

Christmas is coming early around here!

As I prepare for Christmas on a limited income I think about how blessed I am that I have found really great deals on things I need but REALLY want… truth be told.

The antique quilt top is a great example…

it is a nice larger size without being a full queen sized bed quilt… it is made entirely of old plaids and feed sacks… I lucked out and got a great deal!  It has vibrant colors and a patina of an old quilt and dates about 1940’s.  This has been on my bucket list since I realized they existed!!!

I got all cotton batting on sale for $15.00 for this quilt!  Now to find a nice muslin for the back n binding 🙂  That will be a future budgeted item… you see we live on a pretty tight budget…

But one more thing did make the budget because it was such an awesome deal and under $15.00 so it was a no brainer to me… this great book!

 I got it as damaged but new on Amazon for less than half price including shipping!

So I have been looking for things I want for cheap and just happened to get 2 this month… next month I doubt I will get anything as my next project is paid for, collected and waiting for me to start it! 🙂

Do you budget what you spend on your craft?  Any tricks you can share with the rest of us??? Would love tips on how to be a more savvy shopper 🙂  Just don’t ask me to use a coupon that isn’t on my iPhone! lol

Busy, Busy Sunday :)

Today has turned from a quiet stitching morning to a mission completing afternoon!  Yipee!

I am ready to start handquilting my Christmas presents…

I have these TWO lovelies both pin basted with bamboo and cotton batting and a cute coordinating fabric for the backing… I am planning a cranberry colored binding to tie in the darker red of the center and outer points… here are the two tops hand pieced completely 🙂

What do you think?  They are about 20″ across and were pretty easy to hand piece for a first experience 🙂  The pattern is a free download from Fons & Porter here!

So as I do a WHOOP for finishing both of these tops in just a couple weeks… my honey WHOOPs about something else!

He is renewing our shed… first he moved it away from the side of the house using just 2 x 4’s and dowel rod we had left over in the garage.. nothing was purchased for that part… and he used the jack from the van! lol

Then he painted it all white with exterior white paint we bought last month for painting the exterior doors.  We bought a quart of gray and 3 fence boards to make the windowbox and shutters and have leftover wood for further decoration!  WHOOP!

As I write this … guess where he is now.. drawn back to the shed cuz it is looking sooo nice!

Daisy Mae wanted to get in on the camera action even if my honey wasn’t interested 🙂

And if you made it this far… look what I won on Ebay this week… and already got it in the mail!!!!
